Why doesn't [action_param] always return the value passed in a form or URL?

Problem

Why doesn't [action_param] always return the value passed in a form or URL?

Answer

[action_param] is scope-specific:

Outside of an [inline], it returns the values passed via a form or URL (i.e. POST/GET values).
Inside of an [inline], it returns the values passed into the [inline].

Solution

In order to ensure you have access to the GET/POST values, then either convert the [action_param] to a variable, or use one of these custom tags instead:
